The project encompassed the Design and Construction of award winning and highly sustainable extensions to existing Kendal College.
New Entrance Block
The new steel framed 3 storey steel framed entrance block (c.1500m2) provides a modern, high quality and sustainable public face for the College. The design incorporated a range of sustainable design features including Solar shading, a unique “living wall” of ivy at first floor level and solar collectors at roof level providing solar shading and generating hot water for the College’s heating system.
New Construction & Heritage Teaching Block
The two storey Construction and Heritage Centre (c.1160m2) provides a high quality teaching and learning environment and incorporates both a range of local materials – limestone, slate and render – and a range of sustainable design features including Sedum roof.
The project was delivered on time, within budget and to the highest quality and led directly to an additional negotiated refurbishment and alteration project with value of around £1.6m.
The Campus remained “live” throughout the construction works and a key factor in the successful delivery was the careful planning and execution of construction works and effective ongoing liaison with the various stakeholders.
